Marjorie Yang

Marjorie Yang Mun-tak (Traditional Chinese: 楊敏德; born 1952, Hong Kong) is a non-official member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong.[1]

She is Chairwoman of the Esquel Group, the world's biggest cotton shirt-maker, which was founded by her father in 1978, as well as independent non-executive director of HSBC, Swire Pacific and Novartis AG.[2] She is a Hong Kong Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Marjorie Yang is vice-chairman of the Asia Business Council. Fortune magazine has ranked Marjorie Yang 39th on its annual ranking of international 50 most powerful businesswomen in the world in 2009. Marjorie ranked 41 on Fortune’s list in 2005, 44 in 2004 and 48 in 2000.

Biography

Yang earned a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School.[3] Her first career, after graduation, was in investment banking at First Boston.[2] In 1995, after her father, Yang Yuan-loong, was diagnosed with cancer, she returned to take the helm of Esquel.

Marriage

She was once married to Dickson Poon, the chairman of Dickson Concepts.[4]
